Celebrate The 20th Anniversary Of 'Sopranos' Premiere With Screening At MSU

It's been two decades since TV viewers got their first look at a cigar-chomping Tony Soprano snagging a ticket at a Turnpike tollbooth before making his way to his mansion in the Caldwells as the now iconic theme song, "Woke Up This Morning," played over the opening credits.

To mark the debut of The Sopranos, the acclaimed HBO series that helped launch what many consider to be a new golden age of dramatic television,  critic Alan Sepinwall and Hugh Curnutt, a professor of television studies at Montclair State University, are hosting a screening of the show's first episode Monday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m.

The screening will be followed by a discussion.

Sepinwall, who now writes for Rolling Stone, wrote a popular series of episode recaps for The Star-Ledger dissecting the show, much of which was filmed in and around Essex County.
